What your diagram showed was more of a fuller (like what you'd see on a sword) than a bevel (though the bevel part has been addressed). Fullers are generally for weight management of the blade. Like having an I-beam instead of a full rectangular prism of steel.

Yeah, I'd probably buy a fancier looking axe head if they had em at the hardware store. Family would be like, "What's wrong with you? We have three trees." and I'd have to start talking about why It Is, In Fact, Better.

The question is, better for what? My dad easily has half a dozen carving axes, and then you get into all the others, the felling axe, the lidl axe (remarkably good quality head, amusingly), the beater axe for tree roots... We have quite a few axes, is what I'm saying
