Not so much, I'd say it's more about strength vs having a finer edge
Okay, here's my machete (left and pic 2) and belt knife (right and pic 3). The machete has a compound bevel so it can be thicker closer to the edge, for strength. The belt knife has more of a simple bevel, creating a thinner edge better for carving but less durablepic.twitter.com/tqoHcx7Kmb

I wouldn't call them bevels, maybe scallops? You're right that those are for reducing friction in splitting, but I'd say they probably don't have much effect in carving. Bevels AIUI are more the term for the planes of the cutting edge
