to me the idea made it obvious that part of the point is freedom to change over time - otherwise it seems like a terrarium. thoughts?

Basically, they're supposed to protect the biome from the effects of human occupation. A wildlife preserve may prefer to add resources to assist in the as-natural-as-possible flourishing of the given wildlife, but it's often just to time-capsule beautiful places.

I really appreciate being able to visit encapsulated biomes - but even with stuff like wildfire policy it gets weird!
