Do you consider the underlying semantic and modal logics as form? Or are you thinking eg genre conventions (tho i dont think are totally separate)?

hofstadter says "content is just fancy form" in rejecting the idea that you can clearly distinguish the two in a sentence and I was riffing off that

        a) reminds me of repeated refrain in Bruce Sterling’s schismatrix: “the mathematical bones of reality” b) I think this is incorrect in a consequential way: forms persist across discontinuities in content. Content persists across discontinuities in form. Mortality yin-yang.

I literally believe this. You ever see, like, old cotton candy, or a spot where spider webs have built up and collapsed on themselves undisturbed for years? So there's kind of a fractal skeleton of strands collapsed onto each other. That's how I think about language.

Finally, I really like what Poincaré had to say (in 1905!). Maths instead of language, but the imagery is strikingly similar to Derrida's deserted city. He saw that meaning had to get in from the bottom end too - 'the old intuitive notions of our fathers'. https://www-history.mcs.st-andrews.ac.uk/Extras/Poincare_Intuition.html … pic.twitter.com/AJsTRR05mm
