Sometimes it's just because you're hungry
(gesticulating wildly) hunger and similar feelings are kinds of knowledge that dominate consciousness until satisfied (what does it say about me that I thought of coffee before food?)

Hmm. I'm not sure I buy that. Things that are not capable of learning in the way that a human does still experience hunger (arguments about whether animals have qualia notwithstanding).

yeah animals and plants don't have this problem of mental mess I don't think - I suspect it comes from language but who knows
