the paper slips were areas to think about (e.g. recreation, advertising, water & power, crime/policing) - richer way to generate ideas than just "the future"

as the story progressed there would be minimal but powerful narrative obstructions - "reversal of fortune" "hardest compromise"

I felt grounded in my environment and it solved a big problem for me with the running games I've been imagining - I was trying to impose narrative on the landscape rather than letting it tell the story
