I wonder how much mere familiarity with a theory (and its supporting rituals) contributes to the subjective plausibility of the theory.

This is a sort of confirmation bias isn't it?
yeah definitely - but I think it happens just from modeling it in your head, even if you don’t “believe” in it (at first)

Belief is just knowledge you choose to accept as valid so it seems logical that confirmation bias will work with any lens you know how to see the world through, even if you don't tell yourself it's valid
