I wonder how much mere familiarity with a theory (and its supporting rituals) contributes to the subjective plausibility of the theory.

I suspect this is true of other forms of woo - the people I most respect who believe in astrology know a ton about it as a formal system

yeah definitely - but I think it happens just from modeling it in your head, even if you don’t “believe” in it (at first)
