the worst part about psychosomatic symptoms is that they are manifestations of mental illness, and since most mental illnesses are incurable beyond palliation, so too are psychosomatic fevers, headaches and so on

i can vaguely understand why mental illnesses are thought of as demonic possession even nowadays. imagine someone randomly vomitting with no discernible cause (panic attack), losing the ability to speak (selective mutism), self-mutilating (psych pain relief).

ever go on youtube and watch those "POSSESSED WOMAN?!!!" videos or "GHOST MOANING IN PARK AT 3AM ENCOUNTER" and then realise it's just normies having no idea what it looks like to see someone having a psychotic episode, manic episode etc. ?
