A fun thing about being a travelling cigarette smoker is that lots of “I only smoke like, once a year, when I’m drunk, normally I’m so healthy, I swear” friends will have their “one” cigarette with you, which feels very wholesome while you’re micro-murdering yourselves in unison

Health advisory: smoking is bad for your health, don’t do it (Unless maybe you’re suicidally lonely and your smoking helps you socialize, in which case it becomes complicated... but officially speaking, don’t do it)https://www.webmd.com/balance/news/20180504/loneliness-rivals-obesity-smoking-as-health-risk …

Smoking also seems to increase REM in non-regular smokers (can Cite if needed), which can help break depressive cycles. So maybe those "only once a year" guys are doing it right :P

This one's kind of interesting: REM suppression but "Depressive non-smokers experienced a mood improvement under nicotine administration comparable to the effect of anti-depressants" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/19345124/ …

Giving this a more thorough read. Looks like there's a happy medium dosage where nicotine is good for REM sleep, and outside it's bad (but then you get more on the rebound?).pic.twitter.com/q44LGxC1UU

It looks like a pack a day = probably bad for sleep, so definitely don't go overboard. But still, this all seems to support one of my favorite hypotheses (that I still think about all the time):https://mobile.twitter.com/toad_spotted/status/1051480752242794496 …

a pack a day is quite nuts; I assume anybody who claims to smoke a pack a day isn't inhaling half of it. my dad's like that, he'll light cigarettes and just kinda... hang on to them. seems wasteful to me

a pack a day is what finally affected my cardio capacity enough to get me to quit (couldn't run as many miles/week)

Replying to @literalbanana @visakanv and
in au the sheer cost of a pack/day would be too much to justify https://www.aussieprices.com.au/misc/cigarette-prices/ …pic.twitter.com/AXK3rSuKVt

Replying to @context_ing @literalbanana and
same, in SG every puff is precious in Malaysia, Indonesia, etc, you don't feel bad about tossing a stick halfway through
