Weird theory: pandas don’t breed well in captivity because they rely on some sort of formerly-parasite-induced horniness in the wild which is not found in zoos.

I remember reading at one point that herpes increases willingness to have sex, maybe something like this ended up being a key part of panda mating such that they naturally underproduced certain hormones?
