        That’s the ante-science discovery phase. After that comes the “pretend my silly analogy is literally true” phase, followed by the “holy shit measuring is hard”, then “huh maybe we need math”. Finally there’s “split the result over six papers” and “p=0.049999999 we swear”.

        There are two basic processes in the universe (including in the animal brain), natural selection, aka, finding things that collaborate well with one's goals, and random mutation, where new things are created out of the best bits of old things. Both are part of the science.
