hot take: the reason we don’t have much “willpower” is that willpower is the power to go against adapted instincts which is bad in EEAs

Fits neatly with openness/intelligence correlation. I.e. intelligence as meta pattern matching to process change in patterns & openness as instinct suppression (esp. fear/disgust); co-evolved in environments w/ high rate of change, trading off efficiency for flexibility.
