Fits neatly with openness/intelligence correlation. I.e. intelligence as meta pattern matching to process change in patterns & openness as instinct suppression (esp. fear/disgust); co-evolved in environments w/ high rate of change, trading off efficiency for flexibility.

Yes. Willpower is the conscious mind taking over. That's why I've said, if we want to know whether other species of animals are conscious like we are, look at whether they commit suicide.
