ohhh very interesting question almost every vegan who tried to turn me vegan back when i was vegetarian cared about both suffering and nature, but didn't rally for ecological reform nearly as much as stopping livestock farming etc.

see the thing is however, the 'i care about suffering' thing is highly related to the kind of suffering i.e. natural suffering is GOOD, human-caused suffering is EVIL most vegans fall for the same optimistic trap that VHEMT fall for: natural suffering is different & prestige

not my view, but hopefully a steel man argument: one can say that humans possess the capacity for complex reasoning because of experiences fundamentally rooted in casualty. would that make it more imperative to use our reasoning to reduce suffering?

oh no this is more a steelman of David Pearce-esque veganism which is almost entirely non-mainstream (i.e. natural suffering is bad and should be modified) usually vegans align with P E T A etc. e.g. animals dying of starvation is fine so long as humans didn't cause it

yeah taking out the worst suffering agents in nature would be a goal, e.g.
