You might also see failed market experiments as artifacts that feed new experiments: supplying them with info re: absence of demand. Doesn't have the feel of exactly what you're asking after, though, does it? Are you thinking of absence supplied @ consumer lvl?
consumer level is what I was thinking but that's an interesting point
