and preppers to me always meant American conspiracy theorists, usually right wing
in the 70s and 80s there was a hippie/left movement but it fizzled out fast

pretty sure my dad being one of these is why i grew up in a "town" with a population of like 37 and the nearest public elementary school led classes in the Lord's Prayer before the Pledge of Allegiance
