Ellul's statements seem to me more Sturgeon's law than honest understanding. It's not like the Humanities isn't its own sink of "empty platitudes".

Yes, but my point is that it's not like those who are familiar with the humanities have always said especially intelligent things about politics, family, the role of women, or whatever.
