Is there something in your domain of expertise that people thing is really hard but it’s actually really easy?

For me it’s the idea of a shawl passing through a wedding ring like that’s easy as hell you just knit with very fine yarn it’s not hard like

I think the hard part is that knitting something that size at that fineness demonstrates a pretty serious time commitment, and therefore is rare. (The hard part of crochet is probably consistent stitch tension, but crochet isn’t hard...)

is it sexist that I’m really impressed that someone named Ryan figured this out

😂 I took up crochet a few years ago to have something to do with my hands that wasn’t a screen, and to have a make-y hobby I could do on the dining table, unlike small engine repair.

I have more respect for small engine repair because it’s what’s more mysterious to me but they seem aesthetically the same

Small engine repair is tools and diagnostics and certain fine motor skills, though nothing as practiced as handicrafts. Most importantly: you need a space you can drop oil on. My best crochet moments were a few original patterns I did.pic.twitter.com/T3zrbo8kwS

crochet is not my main craft but I respect it for being so weirdly 3 dimensional - you only have one point of contact!

I don’t know knitting well, but I get the sense it’s really good at linear stuff. Crochet is funny, but comes into its own in the round. It’s a natural fit for amigurumi and stuffed things.
