seems ahistorical tbh. if pervasive networking affects extremism much then it has a lot to compete with pre-internet. Extremist movements were common even pre-industrial revolution.

True, more obscure ideas are more easily popularised. E.g.antinatalism is almost completely unattested historically bar the Shakers movement (which was more about celibacy). But as for the consequences of said ideas, genocide, mass torture have been done *literally* to death
