I mean the traditional example of taking a dive is getting bribed to lose so the mob can make a ton of money betting on the fight that goes against expectations but there's other stuff like wanting to look noble/sympathetic (eg when activists WANT to get arrested for protesting)

oh no I meant diving/flopping in soccer - showing off how hurt you are so the refs will call a foul
