strangely this reminds me of Jung's "Electra Complex" which Freud would later dunk on as "raw bull, shit ain't parallel" (Lasch 78-80)

Freud's Theory 2.0 was that everyone has an "active" and "passive" sexual essence, to some degree (perhaps not equally distributed but both present), and that men are culturally encouraged to develop and act on the former and women the latter.
