Depending on the boundaries of "social", "scientist", and "our time", I might disagree: Robert Anton Wilson had a doctorate in interpersonal psychology & only died 11 years ago, & he was practically a standup comic.

(RAW is like McLuhan & Zizek in that everything he says is interesting the first time you hear it, regardless of whether or not it's right, and you gotta binge deep before the repetition starts getting annoying.)
