      looks like an older generation of lift with the visible counterweights. I google around for such a lift at Mt Rose (in NE tahoe, near where you were based on shot of Tahoe in this thread), couldn't find anything.

          fascinating! Yeah on another look doesn't look like a ski lift -- nothing at the top for riders to get off. May be a NOAA weather station -- lots on peaks, midmountains, and valleys around tahoe.
