I don’t know what the good states are but some states make a bigger deal than others about forcing kids into child prison

supposedly the green states are good ones https://hslda.org/content/laws/ but they have california as moderate & they’re pretty intrusive

even when there are laws on the books, localities vary on enforcement

so even in “good” states a lot of unschooling families fly under the radar to the degree possible

(e.g. even if no criminal truancy laws, cops could decide to take your kids away or force you to send them to child prison)

(having kids is a great way to have the government up in your shit forever)
