Does anyone understand the point of “hiking boots” and can you explain it to me?

In my experience, hiking boots are far worse off than even high heels at extremely slippery urban roads and sidewalks covered with ice plaques hidden by layers of snow. Thinner soles are much better since they help you feel and anticipate the ground under your feet.
same so strongly that I’m confused that it’s not common knowledge, am I missing something?
