genetic variation is generated faster than you can select on a lot of the time (not sure if I should say most)

The answer, it seems to me, is to engineer a breeding program whereby the mutation rate of the genome itself is negatively selected for. All resulting mutations in traits will conversely evolve within non genomic media.
