I have the impression that this is an incredibly common and durable result in self-reports. Am I mistaken? What other evidence would establish that depression is usually episodic?

the single study I could find investigating whether depression is episodic found it wasn’t among medical students :/ idk

it was just medical students in the study? why would they do that? take the most stressed out, overworked, high-stakes high-pressure demographic you can think of and see if they're depressed all the time? uh...
