Are the Pinkertons already out of the Discourse cycle, or would people be interested in an impromptu thread about them, private detecting in the 1850s, and where the myth of the romantic lone wolf private detective came from?

kind of a bummer to have been born at the very end of the Fuck Around century just to live the rest of my life in the Find Out century

Seems like is having problems. It won't accept any of my credit cards and PayPal won't connect, the dev console is full of JS errors, and isn't answering. What's going on over there? I hate to take my business elsewhere, but a girl's gotta eat.

Like any thesaurus, it needs to be used judiciously. But sometimes it forces me to say "okay, what emotion is X experiencing?" which makes me clearer on how to express it.

Yes, it sounds cheesy. Who doesn't know how emotions look? But it's again about reducing distance. "His stomach roiled" is much closer and more interesting than "he was nervous." Again, because it's a direct experience, not an interpretation.

So you look up an emotion (like "worry") and it gives you a bunch of suggestions of ways that can be expressed, both in terms of outward and inward signs.

Another thing I did, which helps a lot with the nodding/smiling automaton problem: I have this book called The Emotion Thesaurus. IT IS A GODSEND.

I've already hinted that he's being hunted, and I know that they do come across some random drow imprisoned in the troglodyte lair. So, uh, why not have them be from the house that's hunting him?

Also, I was dreading the upcoming scene of them exploring the troglodyte dwelling, because I didn't really remember what happened that well because this was months ago and that part was boring So, uh, no one says I have to stay true to how it actually played out.
