Yes, the pressure is good and yes, this ad design is a #DarkPattern. But citizens blame the government when they are ripped off. Scammers position themselves as the government in their SEO and on their site. Even when they do realize they've been scammed, they blame gov.
I agree with you — though I’d be careful to conflate actual scams (take your money and give you nothing) rather than private concierge services on top of govt services. If a process is made hard/bad enough, those actors will emerge. The work IMO is to make the process better.
Yes, good point, need to disambiguate bad actors from private concierge services. Takes time & effort that most governments aren't spending - just like they often aren't spending the time & effort to improve those services. That said 2/
Many examples but Canada's electronic Travel Authorization is a good one. Online service from Gov of Canada is $7 - credit cards accepted. Scam companies @Google in organic results $50 to $100.
