Suggesting the termination of the Constitution is not only a betrayal of our Oath of Office, it’s an affront to our Republic.
After multiple in-depth conversations with Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson and deliberative review of her record and recent hearings, I will support her historic nomination to be an Associate Justice on the U.S. Supreme Court. Read my full statement here:
There is no excuse for the president’s spiteful comments –they were absolutely unacceptable and this needs to stop.
Tonight I spoke on the Senate floor on my decision to oppose the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to serve on the United States Supreme Court. See my full statement here:
Stop it! The Presidential platform should be used for more than bringing people down.
I continue to stress that there is no good reason for a shutdown. The reality is thousands of federal employees & contractors have no paycheck in sight, small businesses that rely on them are suffering & there’s no reason they should be held hostage to a political dispute.
Soon, I’ll be speaking on the Senate floor on my decision to oppose the nomination of Judge Kavanaugh to serve on the United States Supreme Court. Watch live here: bit.ly/2k7oZ3L
Today I voted to confirm that it is within the U.S. Senate’s authority under the U.S. Constitution to hold the impeachment trial of former President Donald J Trump. Read my full statement here:
What happened on January 6, 2021 was an effort to overturn a lawful election resulting in violence and destruction at the Capitol. We must not legitimize those actions which resulted in loss of life and we must learn from that horrible event so history does not repeat itself.
(1/5) I worked for a fair, honest, and transparent process, modeled after the Clinton trial, to provide ample time for both sides to present their cases, ask thoughtful questions, and determine whether we need more.
Continuing our tradition of having a bipartisan, women Senators’ dinner. Thanks to the Vice President for hosting tonight.
Here is my following statement on the healthcare bill:
As I’ve stated before, no one is above the law but every American is innocent until proven guilty. Still, the charges in this case are quite serious and cannot be casually dismissed.

As Americans we must acknowledge those tragic events, and we cannot allow a false narrative to be created. We cannot deny the truth—to suggest it was “legitimate political discourse” is just wrong.

(5/5) I will not stand for nor support that effort. We have already degraded our institution for partisan political benefit, and I will not enable those who wish to pull down another.
We are sadly at a low point of division in this country.
After careful consideration, and hearing from Alaskans, I will vote against Betsy DeVos for Secretary of Education: bit.ly/2jEwb66.
My full statement after voting to convict President Donald J. Trump on charges of incitement of insurrection over the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol can be found here:
If we are still in a partial shutdown next week, we should cancel the upcoming recess and stay here to reopen the government and secure our borders.

(2/5) The House chose to send articles of impeachment that are rushed and flawed. I carefully considered the need for additional witnesses and documents, to cure the shortcomings of its process, but ultimately decided that I will vote against considering motions to subpoena.
My statement on today on the motion to proceed vote.

(4/5) It is sad for me to admit that, as an institution, the Congress has failed.
It has also become clear some of my colleagues intend to further politicize this process, and drag the Supreme Court into the fray, while attacking the Chief Justice.

(3/5) Given the partisan nature of this impeachment from the very beginning and throughout, I have come to the conclusion that there will be no fair trial in the Senate. I don’t believe the continuation of this process will change anything.
Alaska Division of Elections have named Mary Peltola as the projected winner in the special U.S. House race to finish out the term of the late Congressman Don Young.
It’s not every day that pays you a visit. Great spending time with and hearing how he is a leader off the big-screen by encouraging others to get informed.
My statement on the practice of separating children and parents at the U.S. border:
Today, I issued the following statement on the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to serve as the next Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court (bit.ly/31BVa2M):
My message to Alaskans and federal employees impacted by the recent partial government shutdown --- I offer an apology to all those who have been impacted so directly. It should not have happened and my goal is that it never happens to you again.

Anyone found guilty – whether an analyst, a former president, or another elected or appointed official – should face the same set of consequences.
Speaking on the magnitude of this historic moment.
My statement after hearing of the passing of Justice of United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg:

We have enough challenges addressing the humanitarian crises both at our borders and around the world. Instead of digging deeper into the mud with personal, vindictive insults –we must demand a higher standard of decorum and decency.
, do you want to be remembered for your tweets or your accomplishments?
We’re seeing a culture of harassment & assault being exposed on a daily basis. Whether you are in the media, politics, or anywhere else abuse of power is unacceptable & shouldn’t be tolerated at any place at any level. Sen. Franken must know that & that’s why he must step down.
The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is a high priority of mine, as I’m a cosponsor of the KIDS Act, legislation that reauthorizes CHIP and extends funding through 2022. I will do everything I can to ensure CHIP is funded.
In a Senate ENR hearing I highlighted the value of resource based jobs. I also emphasized that the recent EOs from the Biden admin regarding oil & gas on federal lands have caused extreme anxiety for Alaskans who fear for their jobs & the state’s ability to generate revenue.

Mishandling classified documents is a federal crime because it can expose national secrets, as well as the sources and methods they were obtained through. The unlawful retention and obstruction of justice related to classified documents are also criminal matters.
Like many Alaskans, I’m concerned about the continuous and often conflicting reports about President Trump, the FBI and Russia.
A statement from my Senate colleagues and I who were intimately involved in the historic Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act which was just signed into law:
Shutting down the government is no way to govern. It is disruptive, harmful, wasteful & could leave hundreds of thousands of federal employees w/out paychecks over Christmas. I’m committed to working w/ my colleagues to end this partial shutdown. bit.ly/2V5xkY9
Today I voted to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve as the next Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, filling the vacancy that will be created when Justice Stephen Breyer retires at the end of the current term. My full statement: murkowski.senate.gov/press/release/
Today the House voted to transmit the articles of impeachment to the Senate, which means an impeachment trial will soon be underway. As a U.S. Senator, I will serve on the court of impeachment and take an oath to deliver impartial justice according to the Constitution & the law.
. signed my bill w/ Sen. —ACT for ALS Act into law. This bill will fund essential research into fast-progressing rare neurodegenerative diseases & give early access to promising investigational therapies for patients suffering from them. This bill is about hope.
Even as a strong supporter of the Second Amendment- this is not right.

It’s important that we continue the debate on how we address border security & address the President’s top priorities, but it’s possible to provide for security & to address the humanitarian crisis on our border, while still doing our jobs to keep the government fully functional.
Very powerful and moving speech from Senator John McCain. I encourage you to watch. bit.ly/2tHFYlG
This afternoon, we closed a trying, difficult and painful chapter in American history as we concluded impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump. The process has shown—and perhaps exacerbated—the deep division in our nation.
I just voted to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to serve as the next Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Great news: The bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act has been signed into law by the .
This consequential legislation I helped lead on will bring major wins to Alaska and the country, investing in the future while reducing inflation.
No matter your political views, violence is never the answer—against members of Congress, their spouses, Supreme Court Justices, or anyone else.
I’m proud to introduce legislation honoring two women who have had a tremendous impact on our nation. Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s leadership made a difference for women and families for generations to come.

#OnlyInAlaska — Ran into a moose today on the walkway to one of my meetings.
It is heartbreaking that officer Brian Sicknick was killed defending the U.S. Capitol from a violent mob. Our Capitol police are part of our work family. They help protect us every day. His death was tragic & senseless. My deepest sympathies go out to his family & friends.

We as appropriators have done good work on the funding bills not yet enacted, and so I will be actively working with the Majority Leader to finding a solution to fund the government and end this partial government shutdown.
I spoke on the Senate Floor about the partial gov't shutdown & our nation’s border security. Count me in for securing our borders. Count me in on addressing humanitarian issues. But let’s allow our government to function.
The dangerous destructive activity at the Capitol is continuing to unfold. I, along with other members of the Senate, are secure but the situation is clearly not safe. It is truly mob rule at the moment.
My statement on the joint press conference between President Trump and Russian President Putin today in Helsinki.
Alaskans are devastated by this shocking and sad news and I am saddened beyond belief about the loss of my friend. We have lost a giant who we loved dearly and who held Alaska in his heart—always.

We are hurting now as a nation. We have wounds from racism that have never been allowed to heal, wounds that are so open & raw--hurt & anguish that so many in this country still feel. Click the video to hear my full remarks on the Senate floor about equality and justice.
Today's news allows for everyone to breathe a sigh of relief. But we owe it not only to our federal workers, but to all Americans, to take the anxiety out of this process & ensure that they aren't put in this position again.
I have stood behind legislation to ensure our elections are fair. We have come a long way toward meeting that goal, but there remains a long path ahead of us. The bill before the Senate unfortunately does not move us further down that path.
Today I joined , , Senator , , , , , , and in issuing the following statement:
There is absolutely no reason to delay this election, and it is not going to happen. It’s incumbent on us to ensure safe and secure elections, and that’s exactly what the Congress has been doing.

Tonight’s #JointAddress was a much-needed opportunity for to outline his plans & vision for the future:
According to Reuters, 80% of Americans support a ban on Russian oil imports, as and I have proposed.
It’s this simple: the vast majority of Americans do not want their dollars to finance Russia’s awful war on Ukraine.
If doesn’t act, Congress will.
The ripple effect of a government shutdown has consequences for all Alaskans, most directly on the thousands of federal employees & thousands more that rely on fed. agencies. I’m proud to support the End Government Shutdowns Act for our fed. employees, their families &our nation.

The Equal Rights Amendment is as important in the fight for women’s equality as it was in 1972, when AK ratified. Women’s equality is fundamental to the American way of life & needs to be expressly recognized in the Constitution.

For months I’ve worked alongside my Senate colleagues to draft a bipartisan infrastructure proposal that will help upgrade infrastructure across America, while taking into consideration the unique needs of Alaskans.
I’m proud to introduce with my colleagues, the Reproductive Freedom For All Act. This legislation would enact in federal law the essential holdings of Roe v. Wade and related cases, protecting abortion rights and contraception access. Click here for more: bit.ly/3OLbDqY
In 2020 we tried to refill the Strategic Petroleum Reserve when oil was <$40/bbl, only to see it blocked on partisan grounds. We had a chance to buy low, didn’t do it, & now are left with a big, panicked sale that will do us no favors in the long-run.
Withdrawing from Syria in this way not only betrays our long-standing Kurdish allies but creates space for an ISIS resurgence. We are already hearing disturbing reports from the region. I urge the president to reconsider this abrupt and unsettling decision.
