The FDA approved the application for an AquaBounty Salmon Facility in Indiana last week. Thankfully b/c of language I inserted into the FY18 omnibus bill banning the import of genetically engineered salmon, including eggs, they will be unable to produce GE salmon at this facility

But the fight against genetically engineered salmon isn't over. I'll work to protect AK, our fish populations & larger ecosystems from potentially disastrous outcomes https://bit.ly/2KuSrxS

Dear Lisa Murkowski: You know this issue is but only one threat, logging, mining, big oil, poor management, water quality, clean oceans, #climatechange, lack of #ClimateAction, gross mismanagement @EPA and @Interior and more, get real on the issue of #Alaska wild salmon

AquaBounty's GE salmon will raise sterile fish in closed circuit terrestrial systems eliminating the threats to Alaskan wild salmon from sea pen raised fish. @MontereyAq says this is the best way to farm fish. If you really care about the health of wild salmon you'd welcome this.

Booo. And they told us no Atlantic salmon would escape in BC either. Wrong. Thousands have escaped. Now we a mess.

thousands have escaped from sea pens. do you honestly believe growing sterile salmon in concrete tanks far inland doesn't reduce such risks by orders of magnitude? Why else would @SeafoodWatch rank it a "best practice?" Or do you want salmon only to be affordable for the rich?

          Replying to @prometheusgreen @lisamurkowski and

Are they pacific salmon or Atlantic salmon? If Atlantic? No deal. The farmed Atlantic Salmon tastes like crap and smells awful when you cook it. Can’t get the oily pcb stench out of the House for a couple days. Eeeyukk!

I agree, quality is a serious issue. Another benefit of @AquaBountyTech salmon is they'll be grown in closed circuit tanks close to major cities in the heartland, reducing food miles and delivering fresher fish faster. folks who've eaten it praise its taste and flavor.

yes. Completely fish out the wild populations before doing anything about it. How very short-sighted of you.

You should protect wild stocks by letting people eat tank-grown salmon that use fewer resources then. @SeafoodWatch calls recirc tank salmon a "best choice". http://www.seafoodwatch.org/seafood-recommendations/groups/salmon?q=Salmon&t=sak&o=1064582210 …

Your statement references "Federal" Drug Administration (FDA) that's funny ... & how are the sterile fish gonna "devastate our wild populations of salmon and desolate our fisheries"? Pretty clear your motivation is to punish consumers by limiting choice which favors Alaska only.

Sterile fish can’t destroy the population of native fish. They’re sterile.
