And while we can be confident in those benefits, we can be equally confident that none of this will come at the expense of our environment, because new technologies have left the footprint of development even smaller.

The size of development pads has decreased by nearly 80% since the 1970s. New technologies have expanded the subsurface reach of the newest rigs by 4,000% over the same period. Many exploration wells are now built using ice roads and ice pads—leaving no impact to the tundra.

We will balance the potential impacts of development, and that's why we have not avoided environmental reviews. We will not sacrifice wildlife for the sake of development. There is no question that development & environmental protection can and do exist in Alaska.

This is an absolutely horrible idea. Please put your money into renewable energy, opening this area to fossil fuel development is the wrong direction.

When
@SenSanders &@SenStabenow brought this up,@lisamurkowski ruled them out of order. She told Sanders that he violated the Bird rule and Stabenow that concerns with tax subsidies for oil companies had nothing to do with the tax bill, budgets, deficits. . .

Do u have link for that or quote? Thanks

You'd have to listen to the hearing. I don't think that there is a transcript. https://www.c-span.org/video/?437369-1/senate-energy-panel-considers-anwr-exploration-bill …

All due respect, Senator, jobs are great... but aspects of the planet's natural heritage are an unrecoverable asset once spent in haste. "Is it worth the quick payout now for the long-term loss?", is the question I would be asking. I hope you will consider nature in your vote.

North Dakota had an oil boom which caused environmental damage, sex trafficking, infrastructure problems. Now it’s over, companies have moved on, the state is in shambles. You want that for Alaskans?
-
Alaska needs to think carefully about the booms and busts that come with unsustainable oil. North Dakota knows that all too well.https://www.google.com/amp/s/mobile.nytimes.com/2016/02/08/us/built-up-by-oil-boom-north-dakota-now-has-an-emptier-feeling.amp.html …

Can't say I agree with you. Oil companies have proven careless in their process and have shown how unprepared they are to respond quickly to clean up result in spills. This will prove to be a mistake.

Yeah, too bad the state is gutting the universities. Oh, can they still study environmental issues? Or will the GOP stop that too?

The jobs won’t go to Alaskans. Oil companies rarely hire our locals. Why don’t we Alaskans invest in renewable energy and become world leaders in the industry?https://twitter.com/cpd_ak/status/928667953813262336 …
