This morning I’m chairing an Energy Committee Business Meeting to consider legislation to authorize responsible energy development in the 1002 Area of ANWR.

It’s a national wildlife refuge. This Alaskan says “no” to oil rigs in a wild landscape set aside for wildlife.

Don’t tweet- Call or write

I just called! People are so fed up! She/GOP wants responsible energy partnering with China! Look at China's brown polluted air you can cut with a knife! They rape other countries resources leaving a toxic wasteland! Speak up people call! https://www.murkowski.senate.gov/contact

Keep this in mind infrastructure roads, oil rig concrete pads, non-stop 24/7 loud drilling noise adjacent to birthing grounds for millions of wildlife! Is that why you signed to scrap the Endangered species act? So you can slaughter the wildlife for dirty greedy corrupt oil? LIES

It’s sad how easily you are able to lie to the people you supposedly “represent”. This will destroy the ecosystem in the refuge and you know it. Future generations will be so ashamed of you.

Please don’t do this. Renewable energy is the way to go. Lead with solar, wind, geothermal, wave power, there are better options. And please vote down this horrific tax bill.

Sorry for the abrupt change in topic, but anything you can do to fight the insidious tax bill seeking to sabotage the ACA would he appreciated.

You're explaining to us why you're going to cave? Don't do this, Senator. Please don't trade short term profits for compromised air and water. I live in oil country and have seen the long term consequences. Please don't do this.

No new drilling, renewable only

You’re moving us backward, not forward. “Leaders” like you and Trump are why the U.S. is losing its position as a world leader. Instead of forward thinking, coupled with public service, you are mired in greed and nostalgia.

It is amusing to see this many replies from folks who have not spent enough time to understand how ANWR came to be and what “1002” means. Search for ANILCA and have an open mind. Renewables are great but it didn’t help me to get to work today

-
Guess what? Your car will still get to work without Alaskan oil.
-
Right. Good argument. No one disagrees with you. But to shut it down completely doesn’t seem wise either. Can you imagine what would happen if we relied on foreign resources 100%. 1002 is not the easiest place to draw oil from and hopefully it won’t be needed
-
I don’t know who is advocating that? Enormous amounts of oil are extracted from TX and North Dakota shale fields, and GOM. There is no need to drill in the Arctic other than more money to already rich oil companies, and at the expense of a fragile environment.
-
It was a response to the fact that domestic oil production is/will decline. All ecosystems are fragile. Even TX, ND, and GOM. The Arctic is being drilled right now responsibly. Does 1002 need to be developed now. No. Should we lock it up forever?
-
Fair enough. At what poin though should we just preserve what’s left of the planet instead of needing to drain all possible resources from everywhere because we can get $1 billion from it? Something has to take priority over money and profits one day.
-
Great point. I hope we get there soon. I look at $/profit a little differently in this case. I see it more as a byproduct of demand. If everyone would focus on minimizing their demand the response will be to extract less. I appreciate the discourse.
