My daughter's favourite activity as a high school student was assembling flat pack furniture, always unaided. From a young age, she fiercely rejected help with whatever she was doing. She went on to earn a PhD in science and to work in that field in 5 countries. Related?

Definitely!!! I was essentially raised as a boy, on a farm. I drove tractors, rode horses, etc etc. Didn't realise there was any "gender split" until I was in my 20s.

My Mum had a major in Mathematics from Sydney University, so I always struggled with the notion that girls can’t do maths.

Recently, I watched my younger son (6yo) following Lego instructions to build something: picking an arbitarily rotated 3D piece from a pile of pieces by matching it to a 2D drawing, then correctly rotating and translating it to clip to an existing 3D structure...

My Grandson aged six, disassembled his bicycle, we all thought "how clever", my Granddaughter at age 4 reassembled the bicycle, we all thought "genius". What we didn't see is them learning these skills together, do all these things with all children.
