Now that I'm done with the phd, maybe it's time to try again in 2020? If you're in the or crowd or you are interested in biomedical and , maybe you'll find some of what I read this year interesting as well!

Yup these are some very bad charts. Although the jaunty font on the TACOS! one admittedly drew me in

Also, to add...last time I was revising, I was at first somewhat irked that the reviewer had suggested like 6 more papers to cite but then when I read them I was like, whoa these are super important, I don't know how I missed these in the first place! :)

I am becoming the kind of peer reviewer that I both appreciate and dread getting reviews from...suggesting literature that should be cited, asking for detail about methods, how stats were calculated. I think it improves the paper but I know it's prob annoying for the author

  6. I have this problem, that my brain thinks of research ideas quicker than my schedule allows me to write up all the other research I've already done

I'm so happy because after years of trying to get a community garden plot, I've finally snagged a spot! I am very excited to have 400 square foot of dirt for my very own :)

Calling all scientists with relevant domain experience. There are 313 results on for "coronavirus" right now. Almost none of them have attached reviews. Let's fix that by Monday morning. Who's with me?

19/ asks pretty much the same question as a workshop I was just at. It's also a pretty good basic introduction to in medicine

Our job as reviews is not to tell our colleagues to write the paper we would have written. It is to help them write the best version of the paper they chose to write.

If you though I was exaggerating about govt acronyms: I was looking for something on our work wiki and came across a list of NLM/government acronyms with 137 acronyms and with links to ELEVEN other relevant lists of acronyms 😂My fave from the list is YEP: Year End Processing

18/ found that the vast majority of datasets in Data Citation Index have never been cited at all (at least as of writing in 2015). This doesn't surprise me. What's harder to get at is whether they have been USED and just not cited

their response was basically "we do have that data but discussing it is not in the scope of this paper so respectfully we're not gonna do that" and I was like, that is totally fair, I'm gonna keep in mind for my OWN revisions that you don't have to do EVERYTHING the reviewers say

I was reading an author's response letter with their revisions to an article I reviewed in which I said basically "you mention you have data on X but that's it - can you discuss what you found"....
