On a previous team, we used to get asked almost daily to build an app for something. Our line was: “the answer is almost never an app —it is process, behaviors, incentives, org structures, etc —and after all that, then it might, maybe, potentially be an app”.

The unexpected loss of someone so young and talented never makes sense. But above anything, the VA, Veterans, and the federal innovation community lost a brilliant, clinical psychologist-data scientist with a rare combination of technical acumen and people skills. He is missed.

For my part, I'm angry. I'm in the anger phase of mourning the loss of my friend and brilliant colleague. He was an exceptional person who didn't get the recognition he deserved. He was humble, and cared about finding ways to break down data silos to prevent Veteran suicide.

Today, David Maron's colleagues at the VA and across the federal government came together to share memories of his life and work. It was extremely emotional. He was an incredible person who connected deeply with many people, and spent his life working in service of others.

“Commercially insured adults have been visiting PCPs less often, & nearly one half had no PCP visits in a given year by 2016. Our results suggest that this decline may be explained by ⬇️ real or perceived visit needs, financial deterrents, & use of alternative sources of care.”

Ok I'm pretty much done with electoral politics on here (mute: ALL), but I just have to say...the app development company is called SHADOW? Shadow. Imagine awarding a contract for election technology services to a company named Shadow, in these times. I...🥴🤯🤯🤯

-don’t over complicate things by using custom tech when you don’t really need it (spreadsheets work great!) -most of what you’re sold is vaporware, ask to see working software

Wow - this is really important information. To be clear, the NEJM piece was a case report, and not a peer-reviewed research study, but it’s pretty significant that even the most prestigious medical/policy journal is getting it wrong. It’s *so* important to verify information.
