Me, dog training: they’ll be less anxious if you keep consistent meals, walks, sleep schedules Me, taking care of myself: three hours of sleep at a random point in the day, skips lunch, dinner at 10pm, no exercise, wonders why my anxiety is awful

White people are really making anti-Chinese jokes because of this outbreak as if their ancestors didn’t spread catastrophic diseases everywhere because they didn’t know how to bathe

How to not take away a disabled person’s autonomy: -listen with intention -believe what they’re saying -empathize with them -validate their feelings -don’t question what they’re saying -reiterate what they said with compassion

“Caregivers never get a break.” Guess what: either do disabled people.

Being a caregiver does not earn you a gold medal or make you a better person. Disabled people are worthy of care. Disabled ppl receiving care shouldn’t be seen as a “good deed.” That makes it seem optional. Not good.

If you’ve been discriminated against you are under ZERO obligation to educate that person with kindness about how what they did was wrong. As humans, we have a moral obligation to educate ourselves about marginalized groups so we can avoid discrimination.

Give disabled people space to be angry, pissed, and upset about ableism. Yes, that means NO tone policing or gaslighting.

Article: Why Being a Mom to a Medically Fragile Child Is Exhausting I’m not trying to dismiss the struggles of parents with disabled kids but these articles go into some pretty horrible things that I hope their child never read. Those discussions should be held in private spaces

Yep. Caregiver burnout can be directly linked to a culture that devalues disabled individuals and therefore also the people who support them.

I wonder how many disabled people wouldn't need to be on Disability if accessibility was taken seriously and employers actually accommodated their employees.

In 2020 I want to see less of able-bodied people creating the narrative for disability and more disabled voices being amplified so we can tell our own stories.

Reminder this Eating Disorder Awareness Week: all bodies can have eating disorders, not just the able bodied ones we see in our media. Disabled people struggle too, and pretending we don’t exist has serious health consequences.

Caregiver burnout is not because disabled people require “too much” care. It’s because the government funded programs that provide care services pay inadequate wages and have stringent application guidelines that are unfair & leave families with little options.

So, the reasoning that your children aren’t offended by “XYZ,” and therefore you’re not being ableist means nothing. Listen to disabled adults and read works from disabled people from diverse backgrounds. I’ll be looking for that from you.

I totally get caregiver burnout is a very important topic but we need to discuss it in a way that doesn’t make disabled people feel like they’re a burden.

Being a former gifted kid with ADHD who became chronically ill/disabled is another type of specially crafted hell. My brain keeps telling me "I can do anything I put my mind to" and "I just need to try harder" — but my body doesn't play by any of those rules.

Straight girl: I wish I was gay & then I wouldn't have to deal with guys because men are trash. LGBT+ people: I wish I could go out in public without hiding my identity or risk getting beaten up.

to preform extreme sex acts on someone without checking with them they are comfortable experiencing that act with you. to ignore them and carry on when they tell you to stop because you are hurting them. Consent to sex does not mean consent to all sex acts.
