So it's now been reported that the New Yorker Fest has blinked and killed their Steve Bannon interview, but— okay, seriously, why does Steve Bannon have a *speaker slot* at 's New York "Open Future Festival"?

Have you ever wondered why the meaning of sorting in computing (ordering or ranking) is different from its everyday meaning (dividing into piles or categories)? The answer has to do with the history of sorting going back 130 years and turns out to be really interesting.

OK, folks, I hear that John McAfee claims to have invented cyber security. (I don't know; he has blocked me.) Gather 'round the fire, kids, for a short story, because I was around at the time.

    1. McCain's funeral was very moving and appropriately political (as befits the funeral of a major political figure). But it also reflected the weakness of a certain type of politics, Decency Resistance or Ancien Régime Resistance.

HELSINKI SUMMIT UPDATE: We still don't know exactly what TRUMP & PUTIN agreed to. BUT, I can now report that the White House Communications Agency's team did in fact produce a challenge coin commemorating the occasion. Alas, it does not feature the faces of Trump & Putin.

Everyone should follow suit. There are 40,456 vacancies in VA's health administration. Every vacancy means slower, less deliberate care and overworked staff. VA decided to tell people this 240 seconds before the start of a holiday weekend

FISA was passed *forty years ago*, in 1978. You never heard a peep from the right about alleged abuse of the process. Guess it's OK to surveil spies...unless the spy happens to be helping Republican candidates in which case we should let them carry on. 🙄

yes, a one-night event starring two disgraced grifters who have become media figures is probably the same as intentionally adopting a "the worse the better" strategy while the planet burns.

Kinda would destroy the point of secret surveillance to have adversarial proceedings. I guess and want us to give, say, Iranian intel and ISIS sleeper cells a heads up before we listen in. That'll be super helpful to national security, guys. 👍🏽

Paul Campos's theory that Donald Trump was the one who had an affair with Shera Bechard, and that Elliott Broidy is covering for him, is one of those things that seemed unlikely at first. But it now seems quite plausible, and if so, it's a big story.

Alan Moore on THE PRISONER: (I'm pretty sure the "ergodic storytelling" question is there because the interviewer mixed up Moore with Grant Morrison; if so, it's a good thing for everyone that Moore either didn't pick up on it or politely played dumb.)
