  2. No dispute with your reporting, Caroline. Woodward knew about ESL but apparently not the closed nature of the league which Glazer went along with. Dan Rosenfield must have been given heads-up on ESL. Issue is when precisely PM informed and his response. Unclear. maybe Dom knows

  3. I am reliably informed that ESL did not come up in conversation because Mr Woodward was in dark. So I withdraw my two mins Boris tweet on ESL. Not so much on Brexit mind you !

My bit for The New European on Tory sleaze and : Acoba toothless, Cameron at best naive, Heywood gullible beyond belief; Whitehall boards polluted by patronage. Clue: look at the Cabinet Office NEDs and hand of Gove

A stunning piece of investigative journalism which reminds everyone captivated by the Cummings-Johnson "chatty rat" spat that is really a financial scandal in which Rajeev Gupta's tottering steel empire is absolutely central via

Cummings statement is an indictment of the PM and the Johnson household. Whoever thought that outing the architect of Brexit as the "chatty rat" was a good idea, without prima facie evidence, is not fit for office. Ahem

Looking forward to a full White House-style briefing in Downing Street today to answer why Red Throat has suddenly turned out to be Blue Throat in a hoodie.... would surely justify the expense.

One must add the legal rider that our ex PM may not have been aware of the degree to which Greensill’s model had gone badly wrong.....

This makes simple but powerful point about David Cameron’s incessant lobbying of HMT and the Bank of England: Greensill was in financial trouble and desperately needed de facto backing of the state via Covid emergency business loan scheme. So not an entirely altruistic exercise

Fascinating discussion with Susan Liautaud today for Aspen UK on her book The Power of Ethics. We agreed there are no more honourable resignations in politics, “alternative facts” are a curse and journalism is (still) vital means of pursuing the truth
