Great to see this finally hitting medical journals. That’s been a closed door to our field for decades, and repeated attempts this past year have been met w ‘no thanks’. Kudos to @trishgreenhalgh @jljcolorado @DFisman @Rschooley @zeynephttps://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1382828513393266690 …

"Ten scientific reasons in support of airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2." New paper in @TheLancet by @trishgreenhalgh, @kprather88, @Rschooley, @jljcolorado, @dfisman and me! We argue the case that it's not just that SARS-CoV-2 is airborne, but that it's predominantly airborne. pic.twitter.com/eKf4jT9PeJ

Thank you! Interestingly, I've ended up reading a huge amount of medical "droplet" literature and, wow, I cannot wait for someone to write the history of science book on that. It's looks a lot like tradition rather than evidence, and I kept thinking I must be missing something?

YES! Welcome to my world for the past 13 years. So incredibly at odds with current scientific understanding! I have been going around saying that the medical textbooks are wrong, and people think I'm weird...which I am.

No, you're not weird Linsey. There's a lot in medicine that needs cleaning up and correcting. There's a lot of haughtiness - some medics can't be told anything and they just ignore anyone who isn't part of their conceited little overpaid circles.

I gotta say that one of the best things about my @HopkinsMedicine medical education was that we were taught to trust our observations and doubt the textbooks if they didn't reflect what we saw. Then, go figure it out and fix the book. That's why it is a great medical school.

What first opened my eyes to this was looking at a recent edition (6th?) of Lehninger's "Principles of Biochemistry" which was still heavily implying that dietary glucose was "essential"

There's a saying in medicine, "Obvious does not mean true", because there's a long tradition of things that were so obvious no one tested them but turned out to be false when they were tested - anti arrhythmics - beta blockers - pressors for hypotension - low fat diets - ...

Well done. Many more steps to go. Is this article correct in saying the us gov is warehousing 300 million N95s? If so, these masks could be saving lives right now. Deploy to hot spots, give when vaccinating for the whole family.https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/949283?src=mkm_covid_update_210414_MSCPEDIT&uac=207415EV&impID=3311699&faf=1 …

Author here. The private U.S. companies have the N95s in storage because no one is buying them. You can read the American Hospital Association position on their letter linked in the article.

I'm so grateful that all of you (with special thanks to you!) were at this for so long, and it sucks that it took a pandemic to bring things forth. But honestly, I do believe there will potentially be much good, including for other respiratory pathogens from this moment/shift.
