One thing I’ve used in person with these trolls is to ask, “What evidence do you need to see to admit that you’re wrong?” They never seem to have an answer.

That's a great time saver. I usually say something like, "what sources would you accept as valid?" They don't like discussing sources up front, and it usually stops them in their tracks.

I see dangled approval and a braying command to "Jump for it! Jump for it!" I would get caught on this when I was a child and couldn't escape my tormenter. I'm not a child now, but I still recognize the pattern. I don't play that game any more.
