Alternative theory: they work out that joining you (and buying a board seat, e.g. Linux Foundation) is the cheapest & easiest way to co-opt you and undermine and fragment your community so they can impose their own motivations rather than the of your current community...

For those who may have read the above as stating the OSI provides board seats to corporate sponsors, we do not. The OSI Board is elected from our Individual Members (5 seats), and Affiliate Members (5 seats)--one seat is held by the OSI General Manager. https://opensource.org/elections

That's why I referenced the Linux Foundation, where Microsoft and others (VMWare?) have bought board seats.
