Glad to announce that the new site is out now :) For sentimental reasons, the old site:

Does anyone know of any web-based tools out there that let you play two separate videos simultaneously?

What struck me about this is that she did not demand students to be more conscious of their food consumption, but instead changed their environment so the activation barrier to lessen food waste was lower.

Kind of reminds me of this video: Food waste is the world’s dumbest problem: Jill Horst changed UC Santa Barbara’s dining halls (getting rid of trays, offering smaller portion sizes, etc) so that food waste was lightened by 50%.

Or would that water down the quality and speed of research progress? Is there some alternative way for individuals to contribute to research projects without burning out?

Not that I know anything about academia or industry, or the ways in which they are funded, but instead of requiring people to measure up to seemingly martyr-level standards (bc family, hobbies, balance, debt), have there been ideas to re-design academia to be more attractive?

In the Name of Love Academia is good at burning people out in the name of love: “Because academic research should be done out of pure love, the actual conditions of and compensation for this labor become afterthoughts, if they are considered at all.”

Because articles out there seem to be divided into two camps: ----[1] The push for “big idea and innovation” camp: --- The Big Idea Famine Basically: Silicon Valley is taking brain capital away from the exploration of big ideas.

Random, maybe naive, question: Have there been any attempts to ‘redesign’ academia to draw more people in?

Sometimes I feel an immense sense of awe at other people's capacity for big-idea thinking (people with extreme production possibility frontiers!) It feels like I am a tiny thimble brain among a bunch of bucket brains and we are all trying to drink from a massive sea.

A lot of tangled thoughts today on internships, summer 2020, side projects (it feels good to make progress :-)). All the mental mess meant it was time to escape the pixels and retreat to the produce aisle.

Highlights: The 'Paper Orchestra,' where kids prime themselves for music education + group mechanics by first practicing on decoy instruments. And the 'White Glove Choir,' an orchestra of the deaf, who dance with their hands -- creating a new kind of music!
