Hate is a helluva drug. It’s an addiction and an identity. It’s a sense of purpose and belonging when hopelessness is overwhelming. It turns an existential dread into a tangible focus. Hate is a malfunction of devotion, so trying to “convince” away hate is nearly impossible.
The best method, @mcaleer believes, is simply listening and trying to reconnect to the person's buried humanity.
