The question shouldn’t be, “But without an income tax, who would build the roads?” A better question is, “What kind of prosperity and progress and innovation are we missing out on because we can’t imagine a way to fund what we need in the absence of an income tax?” - @cboyack

There were roads before income tax. js

Or a good question is why, still in 2019 is everyone forced with the threat of state sanctioned violence to contribute to build the roads?

Beauty of the market is that, no, we, nor any one person or group *don't* have all the answers. That's the point, otherwise that'd make a damned good case for a dictatorship! Decentralized, organic innovation of the market *discovers* those answers, as it all dynamically changes

Road building and maintenance are well covered by fuel taxes. Those meet the definition of user fees. Income tax is pure evil.

FREE MARKET: innovative and cost effective; always improving. Ever expanding pie. STATISM: Twice the cost and half the service; slowly degrading. The pie doesn't expand.

I will let you decide to what extent this is valid for the debate/discussion. NPR brought together a team of economists to answer the simple question of what a president can do to help fix the U.S. economy. Ending the income tax was unanimous.https://n.pr/2Km4nTU

The income tax solely goes to the interest on the national debt... Your point still stands regardless of theft/funding mechanism.
