3/5 flirting attempts, & I couldn't say I just had to put my best friend down without crying. Being able to let a driver know you want a quiet ride probably would have helped. Lastly, I suspect this impacts female riders a lot more. A stupid number of Uber drivers think having me

5/5 have had to do in the past. So yeah, are some people just looking to avoid human contact for dumb reasons? Sure. But I can also see the utility in some cases, & it seems pretty silly to get this mad over an optional feature.

Lastly, 99% of the time I LOVE talking to my Uber drivers, some of the best conversations of my life have been stuck in traffic from Hamilton to Toronto with an Uber driver for 2 hours. I am still in touch with several of them who I exchanged info with, &cherish those experiences

I just want to add, as this is gaining attention again -- I live in Toronto, the most diverse city in the world. Rarely do I get drivers whose first language is English -- which I think is awesome!! And Uber is super popular & great for new immigrants, many of whom have told me

part of why they like the job is getting to practice English with customers. That said, Toronto is very different in that way, than, say, when I take Ubers in Salt Lake City. Just something to keep in mind perspective wise, in case that context is helpful/adds another layer.

This is a real use case, one truly not the motivation for creating the feature. If they actually considered disability it would have been baked into the app when you register. They don't know what empathetic design is.
