NAO c£850bn much recuperated hence a final lower figure- £30bn could have covered all costs required and recovered it from developers/those setting regs or even not subsidising developers for say 3 years - cost to taxpayer 0. VAT £1bn of £5bn so even less than headline

This is a scandal this was a problem when Mrs may was in power . There can only be one way forward it has to be taken up by the conservatives government . This is a serious problem.

developer pays or you could say those that set regs wrong and fraudulently let flammable materials be applied to buildings pay. The tax payer argument is mute - Govt just given £20bn subsidy to the very developers that caused the issue
