You don't even need a proportional style system. Plenty of FPTP systems also have multiple major parties. Just look at Canada. If she were an MP from, say, Toronto, AOC would be a left-wing NDPer whereas Biden would be a right-wing Liberal.

FPTP is voter suppression by design. Even in Canada's system, like in the last election: 6.5 percent of voters chose Green Party candidates, but Green Party won only 3 seats instead of 21. Same goes for Conservative Party, they were awarded lower # of seats than voters desired.

If you want a really weird system with proportional representation AND congressional districts, look at the German system, it's called "Repräsentatives Verhältniswahlrecht"
But seriously, I think ranked choice voting is probably better. -
Score voting is probably best. See book “Gaming the Vote” by Poundstone. But all these things presume the incumbents will allow this. That’s why I advocate
