Parents’ income often has a significant impact on their child’s diet, but the reasons behind that nutritional inequality are much more complicated than just food deserts and the accessibility of fast food.
Chronic absenteeism can have significant short- and long-term impacts on a child’s education — in fact, showing up to school more increases the likelihood that a child does well academically in middle school and eventually graduates from high school.
For college students who commute to campus, transportation costs can be a significant obstacle to finishing their degree — and this financial barrier disproportionately impacts students of color and low-income students.
